GreenBiz Group’s mission is to define and accelerate the business of sustainability. The company, launched in 2005 as Greener World Media, was created to commercialize GreenBiz.com, the nonprofit website Joel founded in 1999. Since then, along with two business partners, Pete May and Eric Faurot, GreenBiz Group has expanded beyond online media to include research, events, and a membership-based peer-to-peer learning network for corporate sustainability executives from some of the world’s largest companies.
As the company’s chairman and executive editor, Joel guides its editorial vision and serves as the host for its annual events: GreenBiz Forums, centered around the annual publication of GreenBiz’s State of Green Business report, of which Joel is the lead author; and VERGE, a global event series that brings together large companies with innovative startups, utilities, investors and progressive public agencies to explore the latest technologies, tools and trends accelerating the clean economy.
